University proposals on the next building at Thames Valley Science Park

With the development of the first ‘Gateway’ building at Thames Valley Science Park now well underway, the University is looking to develop the next building within the first phase.

Proposals for the new building provide flexible office or laboratory space which can adapt, over its lifetime, to a number of uses and configurations. The design consists of an approximately 4,000 square metres two storey building with plant and equipment housed on the roof of the building.

The external design of the building will mirror that of the Gateway Building and will be finished in Corten steel with anodised aluminium panels and large glazed areas as seen on the Gateway building.

Springboard for sci-tech businesses

Located to the south of the M4 in Shinfield, the Thames Valley Science Park is proposed to be a springboard for new and emerging science and technology based businesses, brought together in a campus style setting to encourage interaction and foster positive relationships.

The Gateway building, which includes flexible office and laboratory spaces with shared facilities, received detailed planning permission in August 2015 and is expected to open in late 2017.

A subsequent detailed planning application for a proton beam therapy centre by Proton Partners International was granted last year. It is expected that this facility will be completed and open in mid- 2018.

The Science Park will eventually deliver approximately 800,000 square foot of flexible laboratory and office space with a pedestrianised central area with shared facilities.

Once completed, the Science Park will have the potential to provide up to 5,000 new jobs.
