Personal Titles process under review for 2017-18
Tuesday, 29 August 2017
The Personal Titles process – the academic promotion process that awards the titles of Professor and Associate Professor – was introduced for 2016-17, with a commitment to review the process and learn from its first year of operation.
Views have been sought, and in general there is strong support for the new process. In addition, a number of changes have been proposed, which informed a set of changes approved by the Senate in June. However, a few matters needed lengthier consideration, and Senate established a small group to resolve these matters over the summer.
It is intended that this group finish its work, including consultation with the University and College Union (UCU), in early to mid-September, at which point the Guidelines to the 2017-18 process will be published. In addition, dates will be publicised for staff training sessions.
Colleagues should be reassured that the deadline for submission of cases for personal titles will be delayed until mid-January to allow staff the same amount of time as last year between the issue of the Guidelines and the submission date.
If you have any queries at this stage, please contact Dr Richard Messer, University Secretary.
