Professor James Green wins international law book prize

The work of Professor James A. Green, School of Law, has been named Best Book by a prestigious international law society. 

The European Society of International Law (ESIL) awarded James the 2017 Book Prize for his monograph The Persistent Objector Rule in International Law. The prize is awarded to the best book published in the preceding year on any topic of international law.

James was presented with his award at the ESIL’s annual conference in Naples. As part of the conference programme, James discussed the themes of the book with Professor Nico Krisch of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva. The award was later presented in a formal ceremony by ESIL’s President, Professor André Nollkaemper of the University of Amsterdam.

The Persistent Objector Rule in International Law examines the objector rule in international law, one of the fundamental principals in law doctrine. It provides analysis of its use, both theoretically and practically, as well as guidance on its use and implications for sensitive areas such as human rights and the environment.
