University policy on Criminal Finances Act 2017

Friday, 29 September 2017

Criminal Finances Act 2017

'If any University employee, agent or subcontractor is found guilty of assisting a third party to evade tax, the University will automatically be charged with facilitating criminal tax evasion.'

The Criminal Finances Act 2017 comes into force with effect from 30 September 2017.

It has always been a criminal offence for anyone to assist a third party in criminal tax evasion.

This Act means that if any University employee, agent or subcontractor (including those based at other campuses) is found guilty of assisting a third party to evade tax in the course of their duties, the University will automatically be charged with ‘facilitating criminal tax evasion’, and liable, if found guilty, to unlimited fines, damage to reputation and loss of rights to bid for government contracts.

Please take a moment to read the University Policy relating to this act.
