New executive-style accommodation open at Greenlands
Wednesday, 08 November 2017
The newly developed accommodation for students, clients and hotel guests at our Greenlands campus is now open.
Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell and John Board, Dean of the Henley Business School, unveiled the accommodation at a special ceremony this month.
The project is part of our 2026: TRANSFORM programme of investment in providing first-class facilities on our campuses.
Sixty new high-quality rooms have been built into two separate buildings, styled after executive-level hotel accommodation. Each bedroom is equivalent to the standards and specifications of four-star accommodation.
The architectural style and materials used for the new buildings complement the campus’s historic attributes, remaining sympathetic to the main campus building’s Grade 2 listing and its unique setting by the Thames.
Sustainability and energy efficiency is a key feature of the build, with the use of high quality, low energy and responsibly sourced Green Guide specified materials to meet the BREEAM standards of the world’s leading sustainability organisation, BRE Global Limited.
Professor John Board said, “We have been part of the local and business community for over 70 years as a global centre for business leaders, academics and students from around the world and an excellent venue for external events. The new rooms will significantly enhance the experience of our guests in a way that properly reflects our worldwide reputation and maintains the beauty of the Greenlands estate.”
The building work began in summer 2016 and was achieved in partnership with Architects Design Partnership, who designed the accommodation, Artelia, who managed the project, and Morgan Sindall, a leading UK construction and regeneration group.
The project involved the demolition of existing buildings and removal of an onsite swimming pool and aimed to provide spacious, comfortable, fully equipped accommodation to complement the existing facilities on the campus.
