Student finance and Brexit among topics discussed at Senate

Student finance, Brexit and the newly-formed Office for Students were all top of the agenda at the University Senate’s final meeting of the year. 

On Wednesday 8 November, the Senate – our main academic administrative body – met for the final time this year to discuss the most important external influences on the University. 

Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell highlighted topics that have amassed attention across the higher education sector over recent months, including developments on student finance, Brexit, the creation of the Office for Students (OfS) and United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the recently released consultation on the new OfS-led Regulatory Framework.

The Senate meets at least four times each year to discuss major operations and influences inside and outside the University. It currently has around 100 members, which includes Deans, Heads and elected representatives of Schools, professional staff and students.
