The great and the green: Green Festival 2017

The University and RUSU will once again be hosting the popular Green Festival this week – an exciting opportunity to celebrate and enjoy all that is green at the University of Reading and beyond.

Running from Wednesday 22 – Friday 24 November, the Festival will present a collection of events designed to raise awareness of green issues, the positive steps taken by the University as a sector leading institution and the extra (and often small) things we can all do to help reduce our collective impact on the environment.

The Festival will see the return of popular events including David Attenborough Day on Friday 24 November in RUSU, where you can spend your lunch break relaxing to the soothing sights and sounds of his documentaries. We’ll also be running tours of our state of the art energy centre and an opportunity to visit the roof of the Carrington building to see the solar panels. 

As always we’ll be encouraging people to travel sustainably. On Thursday 23 November, Dr Bike will be on hand between 10 am – 2 pm to provide a quick, free and convenient way to get your bike tuned up on campus. Later, from 4 pm – 6.15 pm, teams will be stationed around University entrances making sure that cyclists are fitted with lights – and if you’re in need of one, they’ll be able to provide you with an emergency light to make sure you get home safely. 

To help reduce plastic waste, the University has introduced the Sustain It bottle and throughout the Green Festival, if you buy a bottle, it’ll come with free re-fills until the end of term.
