Professor Runming Yao meets Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of China
Thursday, 21 December 2017
Professor Runming Yao, School of the Built Environment, recently met the Vice Premier of China and the UK Minister for Science at a special event celebrating the launch of the UK-China joint Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation.
The new joint strategy, signed by Jo Johnson, Minister for Science, and Wang Zhigang, Vice-Minister of the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, aims to strengthen science and innovation collaboration between the UK and China. It outlines a commitment for both nations to take science and innovation collaboration to a new level, building on almost 40 years of cooperation, and is the first bilateral science and innovation strategy China has developed jointly with another country.
Runming was among a select group invited to attend the UK-China Science & Innovation Forum, held earlier this month at the Royal Society, London. An accompanying document to the strategy, the Memorandum of Understanding, was also signed at the Forum.
During the event, Runming was introduced personally to Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China, and to Jo Johnson, UK Minister for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation.
Runming is actively engaged in several collaborative research projects with China – one of her current projects, Low carbon climate-responsive Heating and Cooling of Cities, has been co-funded by the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the National Science Foundation of China, and involves collaboration with researchers from the UK and China (including our very own Professor Sue Grimmond, Department of Meteorology).
