Holocaust Memorial Day events on 29 January
Monday, 22 January 2018
As part of the University community’s commitment to challenging persecution based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability, we are supporting the RUSU Jewish Society in marking Holocaust Memorial Day with two events held on Monday 29 January:
- 12.30 pm – A moment of silence at the Whiteknights campus flagpole, followed by prayers and words led by RUSU Jewish Society
- 1.00-2.30 pm – “Survivor Story”: Holocaust survivor John Dobai will discuss his experiences, including a Q&A opportunity (RUSU Boardroom).
Both events are open to all staff and students. We recommend, however, that you book a place for the Survivor Story event. This will enable us to fit everyone in!
Holocaust Memorial Day is marked internationally on 27 January. It commemorates the six million Jews that were murdered in the Holocaust, and millions of people killed in Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur and elsewhere.
The power of words is the theme for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day.
