Support Cara at the Reading Half Marathon
Friday, 16 February 2018
As many of you will already know, the Reading Half Marathon is set to take place on Sunday 18 March.
Spanning 13.1 miles, the marathon takes runners across the breadth of Reading and includes a stretch through Whiteknights campus. The marathon attracts thousands of runners every year, including many of our own staff and students.
This year, our staff and students are running in support of our partnership with the Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara). Cara helps academics in immediate danger reach a place of sanctuary where they can continue to carry out their work and vital research. Colleagues and students from all parts of the University have already signed up to take part – and they need your help.
A funding page has been set up so that colleagues can sponsor those running the marathon. Please visit the funding page to make a donation – all gifts are greatly appreciated.
Please share your support for staff and students across the University taking part!
About Cara
The University aims to raise funds to continue to support its work with Cara, which helps academics escape danger and those forced into exile.
In partnership with the University of Reading (and other academic institutions), Cara offers persecuted and at-risk academics solidarity and support to work in safety and with financial and practical help. Some hope to return home one day. Cara helps these academics connect with colleagues within the wider academic and scientific communities, facilitating collaboration, enhancing skills and ending isolation, so that, when the moment comes, they are equipped to re-build their societies.
Reading also work with Cara to deliver workshops in Turkey on ‘English for Academic Purposes’ and ‘Academic Skills Development’ to lay the foundations for future research collaborations.
You can find out more about Cara by visiting the Cara website.
