UCU industrial action - an update and an important reminder
Thursday, 01 March 2018
Message from HR Director John Brady
Dear colleagues,
As you will probably be aware, we have now reached the end of the first two periods of industrial action, with strike days held on 22nd and 23rd of February and again from Monday 26th through to Wednesday 28th February.
To date, I have received 363 declarations from colleagues confirming that they have participated in at least some of the strike days noted above. Thank you to all those colleagues who have notified me of their participation so promptly.
For those colleagues who have taken strike action, I can confirm that the relevant deductions from pay will be made with March salaries.
By way of an important reminder, colleagues were given the opportunity to agree to maintain pension contributions during periods of industrial action. Many colleagues have already provided me with their agreement, but I want to ensure that others are not disadvantaged should they have simply forgotten to do this. If you do wish to maintain your pension contributions and have not yet notified me, please do so no later than 9 March.
As things stand there are further strike days scheduled over the next two weeks, and the requirement to declare participation remains as set out previously here
You may also be aware that the UUK and UCU are now engaged in further discussions facilitated by ACAS regarding the proposed changes to the USS. I will issue further updates as matters progress.
Best wishes,
John
