Heritage in Times of Conflict, Wednesday 18 April
Wednesday, 11 April 2018
Heritage & Creativity invite all colleagues to their Summer Academic Forum on Wednesday 18 April, which will explore the theme of Heritage in Times of Conflict.
The Forum will include a screening of the documentary The Destruction of Memory, followed by a panel discussion exploring that challenges faced with preserving and protecting cultural heritage in today’s world.
The Destruction of Memory is based on the book of the same name by Robert Bevans. It explores the devastating effects that ‘war on culture’ has on today’s society, the effects of destructive behaviour of extremist groups, and restorative measures taken to protect, salvage and rebuild the history that has been lost as a result of cultural destruction.
The panel will be formed of experts across the University and beyond, including Tim Slade, Writer, Director and Producer of The Destruction of Memory.
The event is open to all colleagues, and will be of particular interest for researchers whose work touches on heritage and conflict. It will also provide colleagues an opportunity to ask questions and network more widely.
