Tuesday, 17 April 2018
The University of Reading has become a founding member of the China-UK Humanities Alliance for Higher Education – a cooperation between leading Institutions in China and the UK.
The founding members of the Alliance are Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Wuhan University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Reading, University of Oxford, King’s College London, University of Warwick, University of Manchester and University of Exeter.
Professor Lúcia Nagib, Department of Film, Theatre and Television, was the driving force behind Reading’s bid:
“The UK-China Universities Alliance is an extremely exciting project. It will give us the opportunity to intensively interact with our academic partners in China by means of joint research projects, staff-student exchange and cross-institutional networks. There is a wealth of first-class scholarship in humanities and the arts being produced in China at present that remains little known to us, so it’s about time we tap into this fascinating source!”
The British Council have awarded a joint fund of £160,000 to UK members of the Alliance to help promote and facilitate the strategic engagement and cooperation. Discussions are now underway to determine how the funds will be used to further develop the Alliance.
