Work underway for RUSU 3sixty and Health & Life Sciences projects
Friday, 20 April 2018
Work is underway for two exciting projects across campus – the refurbishment of RUSU’s 3sixty and the creation of our brand new Health & Life Sciences building.
Health & Life Sciences building
The University is investing over £55 million into a brand new Health & Life Sciences building, forming the heart of a new Life Sciences zone on Whiteknights campus.
It is being built on the site of the demolished Engineering building, and is scheduled to be completed in winter 2019. Work started in late March and currently focuses on preparing the site for larger work to come – as it is an open-air construction site in the early stages, please bear in mind that you may hear noise from the site from time to time.
The works won’t affect entrances or exits to nearby buildings (JJ Thomson, Maths and IT Services and Polly Vacher), and all footpaths in the area will remain accessible. k
RUSU 3sixty refurbishment
As part of Reading University Students’ Union (RUSU), popular nightclub 3Sixty is undergoing a £2.9 million refurbishment that will see upgrades to key features including audio/visual systems, access and décor.
Work started in late March and is due for completion for the start of the 2018-19 academic year.
Work taking place over the coming weeks will mostly be in preparation for main refurbishment activities to come later – at some point a large crane will be on site to carry out works on the roof, but a date for this has not been confirmed yet.
3Sixty is now closed for the summer, but Mojo's Bar, Café Mondial and Monterey Lounge will all remain open and will host many events for the summer, including regular Wednesday and Saturday Union nights, but with a reduced capacity.
The Graduation Ball on 18 May and Summer Ball on 9 June will both go ahead as planned. You can find out more about upcoming events on the RUSU events page and the 2018 RUSU events calendar.
Further updates on these and other campus projects will be shared over the coming months.
