Where does the power really lie within our education system?
After being postponed earlier this year following severe weather in March, we are pleased to announce that Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell will present his special lecture on higher education on Thursday 10 May.
Drawing on his experiences as Permanent Secretary at the Department for Education and Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools, Sir David Bell will provide an insider’s account of where power really lies in our education system in the inaugural Annual Education Lecture.
Sir David served four Secretaries of State and three Prime Ministers and is a unique position to provide an insider’s perspective into the UK education system: he rose from teaching in a primary school to become the most senior education civil servant in the country prior to becoming Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading.
This special lecture is the first of a new series of public lectures hosted by the Institute of Education, drawing from their innovative BA in Education Studies programme. Each annual lecture will aim to shine a spotlight on the topics relevant to both the BA programme and the wider education sector.
