Childcare vouchers: important update for parents

Thursday, 26 April 2018

Childcare vouchers

We are pleased to announce that the University’s childcare voucher scheme is still open to new applications as the Government has postponed the closure of childcare voucher schemes. The scheme was scheduled to close to new entrants from April 2018 but will now close in October, however, the exact date is still to be confirmed.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the benefits of the scheme.

Registering for the University childcare voucher scheme

Our current scheme is provided by Computershare Voucher Services. If you have children under 15 years of age, you can register online at computersharevoucherservices.com. You can also contact Computershare Customer Services on 0345 002 1111.

You will need to provide the University's Scheme ID number (0019233939), your employee number and National Insurance number to register.

Under the scheme, you could save up to £933 a year on the costs of childcare:

Basic Rate Taxpayer

Higher Rate Taxpayer

Additional Rate Taxpayer

Monthly Salary Exchange limit

£243

£124

£110

Annual Savings

£933

£623

£623

Childcare vouchers can be used for all types of registered childcare, such as:

When your child is under 5 years old

When your child is 5 and over

Nursery

After school & breakfast clubs

Playgroup

Holiday clubs

Childminders

Residential activity holidays and day camps

Crèche, nanny & Au Pair services

Childminders

Parents who are already in the scheme will be able to continue until the September following their child’s 15th birthday. You will not see any changes and you will continue to pay for and receive your vouchers in the normal way.

Colleagues will be updated when a closing date for new applicants has been confirmed.

While our current scheme is competitive, you may find that the Government’s Tax-Free Childcare initiative (TFC) scheme works better for you – make sure you take a look at the Government’s childcare information page to decide which scheme works best for you. Parents can switch to TFC at any time, but please note that you cannot be in both TFC and the University childcare voucher scheme at the same time.
