Keep your bike safe this summer
Thursday, 26 April 2018
As the weather improves lots of people will soon be swapping the car for a more healthy way to travel, and will be using their bicycles to get to work.
Cycling is a brilliant way to commute to and from work – if you’re bringing your bike to campus, we would like to remind you to keep your bike safe and secure.
- It has been reported that bike thieves are once again operating in the local area.
- Over the past couple of months, we have had 5 cycles stolen from the University grounds and halls of residence.
Investigations into the stolen bikes have unfortunately shown that bikes secured by cable lock are more likely to be targeted by thieves, as these kinds of locks are easier to cut through.
Security would like to remind all cycle owners that the best protection is to use a good quality “D” lock which is proven to deter thieves.
You can purchase “D” locks and other cycling safety equipment from our University online store and direct from the Security Office in Whiteknights House.
Please take a look at the “8 Simple rules” poster for further advice on safely securing your bike. Cyclists may also want to visit our Cycling to the University page for helpful tips, offers and events.
