Susan and Karla
Susan Breau has been the Head of School of Law since 2014. During this time, the School has developed an innovative research-led curriculum for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. It also has nation-leading career and pro bono programmes which have resulted in the School of Law being ranked 7th in the country for employability.
Since September 2017, the School has been offering on-campus graduate courses in collaboration with the University of Law.
Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell said, “As Head of School, Susan has made a very important contribution to the University and helped us make good progress on a number of fronts. As well as providing leadership to the School of Law, she has promoted strong partnerships, most recently with the University of Law. Susan has also been an effective and lively contributor to the University’s Leadership Group.
"I wish Susan every success as she takes up her new and distinguished role as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria in Canada."
Karla Pollmann joined the School of Humanities at Reading in 2016. Under her leadership, the School has maintained its strong position – with the University ranked 110th in the Arts and Humanities subject area in 2018 QS World University Rankings.
Sir David Bell said, “Karla has very ably led the School of Humanities for the past 18 months. Working with colleagues in the school and across the University more generally, she has put us in a very strong position to build on her achievements. Karla has also been a refreshing addition to the Leadership Group and we have all benefitted from her wisdom and insights, based on the considerable experience which she has gained elsewhere.
"Although disappointed to lose Karla after a relatively short time with us, she richly deserves her promotion to a more senior role at the University of Bristol."
A formal recruitment process to appoint these Head of School roles for the normal term of 6 years will commence in the autumn term 2018.
