UoRM staff bid farewell to Tony Downes
Monday, 30 April 2018
The staff and students at the University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) today bid farewell to Professor Tony Downes – who has retired after six years as the Provost and Chief Executive Officer.
A farewell party organised on the occasion included speeches, a ‘ thank you’ video from members of the staff and a luncheon.
Tony said leaving the University was an emotional moment for him. “I have met some really wonderful people and learned a lot in my time at the University. Leading University of Reading Malaysia has been a privilege and I would like to thank you all for your hard work and camaraderie. Please keep working together as a team and continue to build on our successes”.
As he departed the campus, staff formed a procession from the entrance to Tony’s car – which had been specially decorated to mark his retirement.
The new Provost and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Wing Lam, joins UoRM on 2 May.
Wing is a former faculty member of the National University of Singapore, who led a successful consulting career with Accenture, International Computers Limited (now Fujitsu) and Logica, before moving into higher education.
He has a PhD in Computer Science from Kings College, University of London and BSc in IT from Salford University, UK.
Wing plans to visit the UK before the end of this academic year to meet the Heads of School and other colleagues involved in our Malaysia campus.
