The University is advertising for the post of Acting Head of School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy for the next academic year, from 1 August 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter. This appointment will be for an interim period until 31 July 2019.

A formal recruitment process will commence in Spring term 2019 to appoint to this role for the normal term of 6 years.

The Head of School is responsible for providing the School’s academic leadership, and will also contribute to the broader leadership within the wider University. It is a good opportunity for staff within the School and across the University who are keen to develop their careers by taking on such a role.

How to apply

To view the new job description and person specification for the role, please follow the link below to the University’s JobTrain internal advert.

Acting Head of School – School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy

This advert is open only to internal candidates, the application will require the submission of a statement of suitability and interest (1000 words max) and the attachment of an up to date CV by Tuesday, 12 June 2018.

Due to the temporary nature of the Acting role, the selection process will be simplified and will involve a panel interview only. At the interview, shortlisted candidates will be asked to give a seven-minute presentation, without PowerPoint. The interview date is scheduled for Thursday, 21 June 2018.

The University is committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce and we welcome applications where a flexible working pattern and/or a job share is proposed. Specifically, we welcome applications where it is proposed to take up the role as half of a job share (and no indication is needed as to who the other half might be). We also welcome coordinated applications from two separate members of staff proposing to undertake the role as a job share.

For an informal conversation about the role, please contact Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof Robert Van de Noort.
