Adrian Bell appointed new Research Dean

Professor Adrian Bell has been appointed the new Research Dean for Prosperity & Resilience at the University. He currently heads the ICMA Centre at Henley Business School and will start in his new role later this month.

Professor Bell will be taking over from Professor Dominik Zaum, who will be the University’s new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) along with Professor Parveen Yaqoob from 1 August 2018.

Prosperity & Resilience is the largest of the five research themes, which also include Environment, Food, Health and Heritage & Creativity. It has 11 research divisions and nearly 150 researchers working on projects like the establishment of a new cross-school Research Division for Global Development, the development of a behavioural and experimental social science lab and the Defence Partnership Programme.

In his new role, Professor Adrian Bell will be a part of the University Research Committee – along with Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), the other Research Deans and the Dean of Postgraduate studies.

Professor Parveen Yaqoob said, “I am delighted that Adrian is joining us as the Research Dean for Prosperity & Resilience. His work on the history of finance is outstanding and provides a unique insight into finance in medieval England. He knows the University and our research community well and is keen to drive the quality, reach and visibility of our research”.

Professor Adrian Bell said, “This is an exciting opportunity and my main aim would be to continue to build on the strong cross-disciplinary work within the theme.  I am a medieval historian working in the ICMA Centre, Henley Business School and already engage with colleagues from a range of disciplines within the research division and wider School.  I have consistently conducted research within multi-disciplinary teams including colleagues within the University and from other institutions.  I understand the significance of this mode of investigation and the insights it can deliver, and am really looking forward to working with the themes to bring researchers together”.
