Katrina Bicknell appointed T&L Dean for 12 months

Katrina (Kat) Bicknell has been appointed as the Teaching & Learning Dean for 12 months, covering Orla Kennedy's maternity leave.

Kat will start her new role on 1 September 2018 and lead on strategic projects related to student achievement. She will also be responsible for the School of Chemistry, Food & Pharmacy (SCFP), School of Biological Sciences (SBS) and School Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences (SPCLS).

Kat is an Associate Professor in Cardiovascular and Regenerative Medicine in SCFP, and the current School Director for Teaching & Learning (SDTL).

The University's Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching & Learning, Gavin Brooks, said, "I am delighted that Kat is joining the senior T&L leadership team as a Teaching and Learning Dean. As the current School Director of Teaching & Learning in the School of Chemistry, Food & Pharmacy, she has worked hard to ensure that the School delivers the best teaching and learning experience and outcomes for our students. I look forward to working with her over the coming academic year."

Kat Bicknell said, "I am thrilled to be appointed as a Teaching and Learning Dean for the next academic year. I am looking forward to making a wider contribution to the University's Teaching and Learning strategic projects and initiatives, particularly in the area of student achievement."

The University has five Teaching & Learning Deans who work alongside the PVC (T&L) to provide strategic leadership and direction for all Teaching and Learning matters across the University.

The Deans and their specific areas of responsibility are:

  • Katja Strohfeldt-Venables - responsible for Quality
  • Professor Clare Furneaux - responsible for Student Experience
  • Professor Roger Gibbard - responsible for International
  • Professor Orla Kennedy* (*Dr Katrina Bicknell from 1 September) - responsible for Student Achievement
  • Professor Elizabeth McCrum - responsible for Engagement and Future Direction

They work closely with Heads of School, School Directors of Teaching & Learning and Research Deans in designated Schools.
