National Pay Bargaining update

Tuesday, 14 August 2018

National Pay Bargaining update

The Joint Negotiating Committee for Higher Education Staff (JNCHES) has now completed its discussions in respect of this year’s pay bargaining round, including the formal disputes procedure, without reaching full agreement with the participating trades unions.

In these circumstances the University will now act to implement the final offer made by the employers’ representatives, Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA).

In summary, the settlement comprises a base pay uplift of 2% on the pay spine points, with higher (above 2%) increases up to point 15 on the pay spine. The full detail of the pay award can be viewed on the UCEA 2018-19 Pay Negotiations page.

The pay award is effective from 1 August 2018 and will be reflected in September salaries, with appropriate arrears, for all relevant staff.

It should be noted that the University and College Union (UCU) has declared a trade dispute in respect of the outcome of the pay bargaining process and has signalled its intention to ballot members for industrial action. Further information regarding this will follow when it becomes available.
