UEB transition and Sir David Bell's farewell drinks reception

Following the announcement of Sir David Bell’s departure, the University Executive Board (UEB) has been working to put transition arrangements in place in time for the new academic year. These have now been approved by the President of Council.
Sir David will be leaving his role as Vice-Chancellor at Reading on Friday 21 September 2018. The following Monday, 24 September, he will take up his new role as Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Sunderland.
Professor Robert Van de Noort will become acting Vice-Chancellor on 22 September until a new permanent Vice-Chancellor is appointed. Professor Gavin Brooks will become acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, in addition to his existing role as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching & Learning.
Appointment of the fixed-term Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic Planning and Resources
To cover many of the tasks currently undertaken by Robert in his substantive role, Professor Mark Fellowes has been appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic Planning & Resources from 15 September.
Farewell to Sir David Bell
Colleagues are warmly invited to say farewell to the Vice-Chancellor on his last day at the University of Reading. There will be a drinks reception at the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) between 5pm and 7pm on Friday 21 September. If you would like to attend, please RSVP using a short online form.
Alternatively, if you are unable to attend the event, please do drop into to the Vice-Chancellor’s office on the third floor of Whiteknights House between 11.30am and 2.30pm on his final day to say goodbye. If you don’t have card access to the building, please come to the reception at the main entrance.
