Apply for StellarHE development programme
Tuesday, 04 September 2018
The University is sponsoring one place on this year’s StellarHE national development programme and is now inviting applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff who meet the criteria as given in the enrolment form and StellarHE website.
StellarHE is a strategic executive development programme for Diverse Leaders (BAME) in Higher Education. Now in its seventh year, this programme is designed to develop and implement leadership strategies that reflect the unique challenges and experiences of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic academic and professional staff across the HE sector.
This development programme is recognised by the Institute of Leadership and Management and is supported by HEFCE. University College London and the University of Manchester are the lead institutions.
StellarHE is targeted at BAME individuals who aspire to senior leadership positions in Higher Education. It is aimed at professional support staff, academics and researchers at middle to senior management level. Readiness to embark on an experiential leadership programme and availability to participate in all activities are key criteria for participation on the programme.
Managers of those applying will need to support the application and fully understand their involvement; their active engagement is a critical element of the StellarHE programme. For example, managers need to support participants in identifying their Leadership Challenge and sharing their learning in the workplace on completion of the formal modules of the training. They will also be invited to attend the Leadership Challenge presentations on the final day.
The programme dates are listed below, and successful applicants must be able to attend all the dates given. Please note that some dates are residential and the cost of these is included but Heads of School or Function will need to pay for any additional costs, including travel.
- 6 December 2018 – Orientation
- 17 & 18 January 2019 – Module 1 (residential)
- 14 & 15 March 2019 – Module 2 (residential)
- 16 & 17 May 2019 – Module 3 (non-residential)
The programme also includes pre-course work such as reading articles, written assignments and a Leadership Challenge project. The pre-course work typically requires about 2 hours before each workshop.
