Phishing email alert: "Review blocked sign-in attempt"

Wednesday, 07 November 2018

IT

The University's IT team would like colleagues to be aware of a phishing email that may have reached some inboxes.

The email appears to come from ‘IT Service Desk’ and alerts you about a block sign-in attempt on your university email account.

Please do not click on this email or follow the instructions outlined in the email.

Phishing is an attempt to get a user to disclose sensitive information or clicking on a bad link. It can be conducted via a text message, social media, or by phone, but these days most people use the term 'phishing' to describe attacks that arrive by email.

The IT department blocks thousands of phishing emails a week but some still get through. Please always check the sender address and hover your mouse over links to check them before clicking.

If you are unsure of an email or want to talk to IT about phishing emails, please call ex.6262 or go to reading.ac.uk/it
